St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) are one step closer to lifting the ISSA daCosta Cup after securing a semifinal spot and head coach Omar 'Rambo' Wedderburn has expressed pride in the team's achievements.

In an intense matchup on Saturday, STETHS drew 0-0 against Dinthill Technical to keep their unbeaten run intact.

"It's a milestone that we haven't crossed or reached for a long time and we show appreciation to being here. I am really proud of the boys to make it to the semifinals because to win, you have make it this far," said Wedderburn.

STETHS have won 12 schoolboy football titles, the daCosta Cup in 1974, 1999, 2009, 2013, and 2015; and six consecutive Ben Francis KO titles - in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. With last year's seventh title, they are now tied with Cornwall College.

Last season, STETHS missed out on a place in the daCosta Cup semifinals after a 5-2 defeat to Glenmuir High.

Veteran Wedderburn, who has been the official coach for 13 years, came into the season with ambitions of building an even better team. STETHS scored 62 goals and conceded only six this season.

Though one of their best seasons in decades, Wedderburn is downplaying the significance of their unbeaten record, focusing instead on the importance of each game.

"We plan to go all the way, honestly. Having an unbeaten record in past games cannot help us to win a title. Our main focus is when the semifinals start on Wednesday," said Wedderburn.

"We really don't pay attention to those things because we don't want to use that as a stepping stone. It's just how the game comes, the result of the game on the day."

Playing in Group B, STETHS came into Saturday's game tied on four points with Dinthill, with STETHS ahead by a goal difference. Both Clarendon College and Christiana High had a point apiece, with Clarendon ahead on goal difference.

The draw resulted in both STETHS and Dinthill ending on a tie, but STETHS were rewarded as group winners.

Christiana after a 1-0 victory over Clarendon, ended the group third on four points, and Clarendon fourth on a point.

In group A, Glenmuir High ended the title hopes of 12-time champions Cornwall College on Saturday, in a game that ended 1-1.

Going into the fixture, Glenmuir were on six points and needed only a point to make it to the final four, while Cornwall were on three.

Kemps Hill High clipped last year's finalists McGrath 1-0, to make history by booking their spot in the semifinals.

When the semifinals begin on Wednesday, a doubleheader will feature the Andrew Peart-coached Glenmuir High against the Lenny Hyde-coached Dinthill at 2 p.m., while STETHS will have a rematch against giant-killers Kemps Hill at 4:15 p.m.

Both matches will be played at the National Stadium in Kingston.
