Music producer Javon 'Likkle Peppa' Downer intends to redouble his humanitarian and community outreach efforts this year to reach at-risk youth.

"After Hurricane Melissa, I made several trips to the affected areas to hand out critical supplies and render aid to the affected communities. I feel that now, more than ever, we need to find a way to reach out to disenfranchised youth who may be struggling to keep them away from the paths of crime and violence," he said.

He pointed to recent developments such as the historic decline in homicides for 2025 - with the number falling below 700 - as a positive sign for the future. This figure represented a more than 40 per cent reduction from 2024 and the lowest figure since 1994.

"Now, what we need is a multi-agency approach across Jamaica to keep young people out of the clutches of gangs. I plan to do more outreach efforts to open up the minds of our youth," said Downer, who also operates a security company.

The emerging producer will roll out his first release for 2026 with a song titled Kotch It featuring dancehall star Savage, as well as emerging talents Sexc Danger and George P.

A few years ago, he inked a deal to operate as an artiste and repertoire (A&R) agent with UK-based recording company Nafti Records.

"I am still trying to empower the minds of young artistes. My daughter Jahveel is also one of my biggest motivations. She pushes me to go harder and never give up, mainly to make a better life for her because I didn't grow up with a father," he said.

Downer grew up in the small community of Bells Heights in Gordon Pen, near Spanish Town, St Catherine. After leaving Waterford High School, he entered the National Youth Service. However, music remained his first love. He began to experiment with making beats, and soon completed his first project, the 'Peppa Christmas' rhythm. In 2014, he scored a minor hit with Ganggoolie's single Puppy Tail that popped up on a number of charts overseas and created a big buzz locally.

Last year, Downer released a song titled Mama, featuring former Digicel Rising Stars winner Short Boss, which was distributed via 21st Hapilos.
